As we go about our daily lives, it’s easy to overlook the challenges faced by the young people around us. But the truth is, youth in South Africa are struggling. High unemployment, socio-economic pressures, and prolonged unemployment are taking a devastating toll on their mental health and well-being.
It’s time for us to step in and make a difference. That’s why we’re excited to introduce the Shukuma Youth Programme, a 12-month intervention designed to restore hope and drive in young people aged 18-35.
Shukuma – Moving Forward Together
“Shukuma” means “to move” in Xhosa, and that’s exactly what we aim to do – move youth forward, equipping them to overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential. Our programme is built on two phases:
Phase 1: Mental health and well-being support through personal growth processes, led by MoreThanMeerAs in small, intimate groups; and
Phase 2: Intense work-readiness training, supplemented by community workshops and interactive sessions to arm young people with the resources they need to succeed.
Our Goal
We believe that every young person deserves the tools and skills to reach their full potential. Our goal is to empower them to do just that.
